CAMS AND GIRLS

    A girl cams

                                     More Waching

The first scene opens with a sensual performance by Lola (Madeline Brewer) who only wears a mini varsity-jacket as her top. Unbuttoned and not wearing any underwear. He talks to himself on a giant LED in front of him, like a singer on stage interacting with fans attending a concert. It's just that, Lola's way of speaking is very sensual. He was also not on a busy stage, but a dim room that only contained himself.
Lola'ss spectators appeared virtually on the LED screen in front of him. They threw the tokens, then asked Lola to do anything, which is sure to comply. Most of them were requests that aroused the audience's lust. The bigger the number of tokens, the requests from the audience are usually more perverted, if not wild. Until someone asked Lola to put a knife into his genitals.
Lola's face started to panic, but the guest insisted. He donated more tokens. Other spectators started to ignite. They supported Lola's idea of "using a knife." "Is this what you want?" said Lola, holding a knife. Instead of aiming it at his cock, Lola sliced his own throat. Blood poured out. He bowed withered. Two seconds of silence, the atmosphere tense.
Untill thousands of comments filled Lola's live broadcast box.
The opening six minutes of Cam, the Daniel Goldhaber debut film that Netflix bought and only premiered last week, is gripping. Madeline Brewer who plays Lola managed to guide us into a horror situation that is far from conventional styles. About a cam girl trying to get into the top 10 of Free Girls Live to settle down and have good reasons to open up to her mother about her job. Alice, whose real name is Lola, looks like an ordinary girl in the real world. Her identity as a cam girl is only known to her sister, Jordan (Devin Druit). He is good at hiding his online persona in real life, as well as managing the money he gets from an unpopular job. The conflict didn't come from there, because Alice's family was quite supportive.
The main problem this film presents is that it comes in a magical smell: all of a sudden, Lola — the persona character Alice creates in cyberspace — suddenly “comes alive” and takes over her account on Free Girls Live. The real Lola panicked. Not only was her money lost, Alice also didn't accept it because the fake Lola appeared better as Lola than herself. Through a Searching-style detective plot, which was worked on several times with Kubrick-style cinematography, Alice finds out who exactly Lola stole her account. Isa Mazzei, the scriptwriter, was inspired by his life story as a cam girl. So it's no wonder that Cam comes with a strong story.
Mazzei and Goldbaher's chemistry were absent, they had known since high school, and had been involved in a pornography project together. Not to mention the quality of the play that Brewer serves. Cam's duration of up to 1.5 hours isn't boring at all. This trio of Goldbaher, Mazzei, and Brewer not only explores the cam girl story deeply, but also presents an exciting thriller.
The character choices are almost unpredictable, and not easy to guess. Still, it all makes sense and doesn't make them appear superficial. The character Lynne, Alice's mother, for example. He is completely non-judgmental, and tends to be complacent when the princess's work is caught in an embarrassing manner. Alice can still return home, and dialogue with Lynne equally, without losing her authoritative character as a matriarch.
Mazzei's script also makes Alice's profession appear like a structured business. Ordinary people can understand Alice's motivation — who is indeed business oriented — easily. The script also has plot twists and turns where all the shocking effects work. Cam is not here to scare you away from exploring the wilds of the internet - because online personas can be wilder and more fun than you in the real world. He just wanted to remind us: what if your person there was more interesting? Until you are the real one there is no meaning at all.
